Hong Kong College of Radiologists mourns with deep sadness that our Honorary Fellow, Professor Dai Jianping, former President of Beijing Tiantan Hospital affiliated with Capital Medical University, passed away on 2nd March 2025, at the age of 79.


Professor Dai was an internationally renowned radiologist and a respected pioneer in neuroradiology and interventional radiology in China who had served Radiology for more than 40 years.  He made groundbreaking contributions to the fields of neuroradiology diagnostics and interventional radiology, significantly advancing neurointerventional treatments and shaping the growth and development of neuroradiology in China.  Professor Dai served as Vice President of the Chinese Medical Association, Chairman of the Chinese Society of Radiology, and editor-in-chief of numerous authoritative monographs in medicine.  He also founded and served as the inaugural editor-in-chief of "Chinese Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging", significantly promoting the academic exchange and advancing medical imaging in China and internationally.  His rigorous academic approach and extraordinary contributions earned him widespread recognition and respect among colleagues worldwide.


Prof. Dai had received numerous honours, awards and medals from international bodies in recognition of his tremendous contributions to the profession, including the Antoine Béclère Medal by the International Society of Radiology, Gold Medal of the Asian Oceanian Society of Radiology, Honorary Member of the Radiological Society of North America, the European Society of Radiology, American Society of Neuroradiology, Swedish Society of Radiology, The Korean Society of Radiology, Italian Society of Radiology, Foreign Member of the U.S. National Academy of Medicine, and Member of the International Society for Strategic Studies in Radiology.


Professor Dai’s dedication to radiological development and education all over the world is universally celebrated.  He had enthusiastically supported the medical profession and had visited Hong Kong on many occasions to participate in our College’s activities.  Apart from delivering lectures in Hong Kong, he had been instrumental in the organisation of multiple scientific activities and academic exchanges in China and Hong Kong, most notably the Joint Meeting between our College and Chinese Society of Radiology in 1998.  In recognition of his immense contributions to radiology in Hong Kong and global radiology community, he was conferred our College Honorary Fellow in 1999.


Professor Dai’s passing is a great loss to our professional community. He will be fondly missed by all, and his legacy will always be remembered.
