Admission Criteria

 

  1. Our College shall consider application for admission to the Fellowship of the Hong Kong College of Radiologists on the basis of the following criteria.

     

    1. The applicant shall be a resident in Hong Kong, shall show documentary proof of genuine full-time practice in the respective discipline of radiology in Hong Kong, and shall hold a valid and current Practicing Certificate issued by The Medical Council of Hong Kong.
    2. The applicant shall have
      1. passed the Joint Final Fellowship Examinations (held jointly by the Hong Kong College of Radiologists and The Royal College of Radiologists) in respect of the specialties of Radiology and Clinical Oncology, or the Final Fellowship Examination in Nuclear Medicine of the Hong Kong College of Radiologists in respect of the specialty of Nuclear Medicine;
      2. completed not less than six years of approved post-registration (full registration) supervised training, of which not less than five years of training are full-time clinical work in the discipline of radiology he is pursuing;
      3. completed not less than two years of Higher Training after passing the Joint Final Fellowship Examination in respect of the specialties of Radiology and Clinical Oncology, or the Final Fellowship Examination in Nuclear Medicine of the Hong Kong College of Radiologists in respect of the specialty of Nuclear Medicine;
      4. undertaken the full training period in training centres accredited by the Hong Kong College of Radiologists; and
      5. been assessed by the Education Committee, through Exit Assessment on completion of training, to be a fully trained and professionally qualified medical doctor for practice in the specialty.
    3. For special circumstances pertaining to criterion 2 in respect of the specialties of Radiology and Clinical Oncology, applicants with a recognized international qualification obtained by examination, after passing a "Special Examination" organized by the Hong Kong College of Radiologists, shall be recognized as equivalent to passing the Joint Final Fellowship Examination. For such applicants, the date of possessing the recognized international qualification will be regarded as the effective date for the commencement of the required Higher Training as stipulated in 2(c). Before applying for the Exit Assessment, they are required i) to attend all mandatory lectures of our College; ii) to have at least one project be accepted at our College scientific meetings, or regional/international scientific conferences as the oral presenter or first author of a poster presentation; and iii) to have at least one radiological/oncological/nuclear medicine article as the first author must be published/accepted for publication in the Journal of our College or other indexed medical journals. Recognition of post-examination supervised higher training undertaken in institutions in overseas countries, and exemption from any part of mandatory lectures, shall be considered on individual basis upon formal application, and to be endorsed by the Council of Hong Kong College of Radiologists. In addition, such applicant must become a Member or an Associate Member of Hong Kong College of Radiologists for at least one year prior to their Exit Assessment.
    4. For a broad knowledge-based exposure in the specialty of Radiology, the two years of Higher Training should consist of minimum of 6 months full time General Radiology; minimum of two Category A subspecialty subjects (well-recognized radiology subspecialties including Breast Radiology, Thoracic Radiology, Gastrointestinal Radiology, Genitourinary Radiology, Head & Neck Radiology, Interventional & Vascular Radiology, Musculoskeletal Radiology, Neuroradiology and Paediatric Radiology), of which one subject should be of 6-month duration; and remaining period of Higher Training in General Radiology, Category A subspecialty subjects, Category B subspecialty subjects (technique-based subspecialties including Ultrasonography, CT, MRI and Radionuclide Imaging) or Category C subspecialty subjects (subjects related to clinical subspecialties particularly strong at a hospital, for instance, Transplantation Radiology, Intensive Care Imaging, Oncologic Radiology).

     

  2. Only doctors with very special circumstances, and with justification and full documentation of such circumstances, may have applications accepted for individual consideration by the Hong Kong College of Radiologists.

  4. This document shall take precedence over all other documents on Fellowship Admission Criteria of our College issued prior to the date of the current document.

The Council may admit as a Member of the College upon payment of such fees as are referred to in Articles 13 and 14 a medically qualified person who.

 

  1. shall be a registered trainee of the Hong Kong College of Radiologists.
  2. shall have passed the examinations laid down by the Education Committee and approved by the Council for this purpose; or have passed such equivalent examinations thereof as may be determined by the Council [either passed the Joint First (part I) Fellowship Examination, or passed the First (part I) Fellowship Examination of the Royal College of Radiologists after attempting the Joint First (part I) Fellowship Examination, or passed the First (part I) Fellowship Examination in Nuclear Medicine of our College.
  3. shall be a resident in Hong Kong.
  4. shall hold a valid and current Annual Practicing Certificate issued by The Medical Council of Hong Kong.

The Council may admit as a Trainee Member of the College upon payment of such fees as are referred to in Articles 13 and 14 a medically qualified person who:

 

  1. have enrolled as a registered trainee of the Hong Kong College of Radiologists.
  2. have NOT passed the examinations laid down by the Education Committee and approved by the Council for the purpose of admission as Member of the College.
  3. shall be a resident in Hong Kong
  4. shall hold a valid and current Annual Practicing Certificate issued by The Medical Council of Hong Kong.

The Council may admit as Associate Members of the College upon payment of such fees as referred to in Article 13 and 14 those persons:

 

  1. who are Fellows of other Hong Kong Academy of Medicine Colleges and are interested in the practice of radiology, or
  2. who are medically qualified and possess qualifications in the practice of radiology, or
  3. who are members of other professions and are interested in the practice of radiology.
